Each year, 4 million people flock to Lyon, France for the Fête des Lumières, or Festival of Lights. We wound up here because of the generosity of a girl named Manon, who very kindly welcomed us to stay in her family’s home and explore her city. So after days of filling up on her mother’s wonderful cooking, laying in a comfortable (queen sized!!) bed, having our own bathroom, and generally being treated like royalty by her awesome family, we got to attend this crazy, lit up party. It was one of my favorite nights in Europe, and the entire experience forever changed my American notion that the French are unkind and standoffish. They are my favorite people in the world.
France, I can’t wait to come back to you!
